First Ride, Slow Ride

UI/UX | BOLT Mobility | Graphic Designer

Overview

For the city of Portland, Oregon, BOLT Mobility was required to create a “First Slow Ride” in the app to get users comfortable with the e-scooter’s throttle. After scanning the QR code to unlock the scooter, users are shown a warning screen that displays the “First Ride, Slow Ride” prompt. The alert is continually shown, all the way into the ride screen. Once your slow rides are done, the final lock screen shows a banner that you have unlocked the full throttle capabilities.

In-App Flow

Upon selecting a scooter to unlock, the user is prompted with an alert that states their first ride is a slow ride. The user has to accept, by pressing "Got it!", before moving on to unlock the device. Even while unlocking the device, we displayed a banner stating that this first ride will be a slow ride. Post-unlocking, the ride timer displays a banner that still shows that this ride has to be a slow one. After their ride, the user is taken to the final screen where they can view their reciept or close the ride altgother. On this screen, the banner on top is displayed as green to alert them that they have unlocked full throttle use for their next ride.

Additional Slow Ride Callouts

The "Slow Ride" tag was used across many different screens to show that the user had finished their first Slow Ride. The Ride History screen, Ride Details screen, and Ride Reciept screen all showed the same icon and type treatment for this tag.
